GENDER MATTERS! TRAINING COURSE

Action for Peace #56

What happened?

Gender-based conflicts around #gender stereotypes, distribution of care work and manual labour, sexual harassment as well as sexism, homophobia and transphobia exist and are common. Camp coordinators, camp organizers and local project hosts sometimes don’t feel equipped to handle these situations.
The training Gender Matters was a platform that offered exchange and reflection on many topics.
During the week participants analysed and discussed how gender is perceived in society, how conflicts and violence are gendered but also which how gender roles can also be found in volunteering camps and youth exchanges.
The group consisted of volunteers and activists coming from SCI and other organisations aiming at making spaces safer and more inclusive.
As a result different checklists were created. They can be used by anyone interested in organising any type of exchange or activity and who wants some hints on steps to follow in order to create as much as a safer space as possible (camp coordinators…).
