ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF MULTITUDE 1920-2020

The history of thousands of volunteers/s, camps, construction sites and projects for peace in a century of commitment of the International Civil Service

Action for Peace #62

What happened?

WAOn November 20, 1920, Pierre Ceresole and the very first volunteers and the newborn SCI laid the first cornerstone of a prefabricated building that would give shelter to the citizens and Esnes, a rural village near Verdun in France razed to the ground from the gunfire of the war. They did not imagine that that stone would become the basis on which to find a movement for peace that in the concreteness of “not words, but deeds” has, even today, its instrument of communication.

On November 20, 2020, the story of that day and that first camp was confronted with who, even today, is SCI.

An illustrated online theater of the first work camp of 1920, followed by brief interventions by some volunteers, historical and new activists, the secretary and the president of SCI Italia who in recent years have contributed to the growth of the association.

At 19:00 they had an online video-meeting with a short illustrated story of the first work camp of 1920 and short interventions of some volunteers and activists that in recent years have contributed to the growth of the association.
