As of April 14, 2020, 34 initiatives have found its place on the SCI’s campaign “100 Actions for Peace”, but only two of them were focused on the gender. These are action #15 “Gender under the glass” and action #22 “La Rose des Genres”.
Gender under the glass – was a workshop organized by International Secretariat of SCI during the International Committee Meeting (ICM) on December 6, 2019, in Bennekom, The Netherlands. 10 participants and volunteers of ICM joined the workshop where they could exchange knowledge and experiences related to gender, feminism and inter-sectionalism. The facilitaror used Bell Hooks’s book “Feminist theory:margin to center” from 1984 as a way to get into the topic, by splitting it in equal parts so each participant could read a part of it. After in a plenary session, everyone shared their impressions on what they have read. For many, it was a first approach of a theory book about feminism and gender.
La Rose des Genres – was a on-day-exchange and training, through the methodology of non formal education, on the theme of gender. The project was organized by SCI France and took place in Lille, France, on February 18, 2020. During the workshop, interactive methodologies has been used to promote the active participation of participants and to stimulate the horizontal exchange of skills and knowledge. Participants had the chance to go through the educational tools of the “Free to be You and Me” toolkit created by the Gender Blenders Working Group of the Service Civil International.
100 Actions for Peace is campaign initiated to mark the 100th anniversary of Service Civil international. The goal is to involve 100 initiatives around the world by the end of 2020 that have for focus peace with all the elements that matter on this topic. Are we going to see more initiatives on gender? We will have to see until December.
