The UN – IDP (International Day of Peace) officially on the 21 September every year is a day dedicated to Cessation of War, Non Violence and a culture of Peace. Nations all over the world take this day and its adjoining week to celebrate and commemorate it. Every year SCI Malaysia has a new theme and this year it was – Climate Action for Peace.

In Malaysia this has been actively promoted by a group of NGOs call Partners for Peace, Malaysia. SCI Malaysia is a founding member and instrument in organizing this event for the past 13 years.
For the past 12 years their focal point was in Taiping, also known literally as the Town of Everlasting Peace. For last year and this year, Kuala Lumpur, take centre stage.

Spearheaded by SCI Malaysia and Partners, the UN International Day of Peace was commemorated and held over three locations in Malaysia:

Location 1 – Gathered at a Mosque and a 1 km Peace March to a Peace Park in Kuala Lumpur. Activities include Interfaith Prayers for Peace, Reciting of the UN Secretary General’s Peace Message, Musical Presentation, Presentation of a Peace Pole, Planting a Palm Tree by a Federal Minister, Exhibition from Winners of Peace Art and Kolam Competition, Exhibition and Awareness Program on “Climate Action for Peace”.
Location 2 – Planted a Peace Pole at an International Boarding School at Genting
Location 3 – Peace Convoy from Genting to Taiping 300 km away, Cycle for Peace by 200 cyclists, Planted National Flowers and Trees, and held a Peace Lecture.
