Human Library: Make Food Not War

Action for Peace #13

What happened?

Human Library is an inclusion tool that seeks to challenge prejudice and discrimination and encourages understanding.

The Human Library: Make Food Not War was focused on refugees and migration and it gave a chance to meet people from different backgrounds, with stories connecting their path to Bulgaria and their national food.

This is how the event worked: they invited people (the Books), participants (the Readers), and a team of volunteers (the Librarians) hosted everyone in the cosy space at Дом на киното / Dom na kinoto .

On the participant’s arrival at the venue, the Librarians showed them a list of the Books and help with the choice if support was needed. For reading Books participants were given 15 minutes. For those eager to read more, the time was enough to read more than one Book.

The end of the event was followed with the screening of the movie “Capernaum”, awarded in 2018 with the Cannes Film Festival Jury Award.
